Pastor Mike:
Hi! Pastor Mike Yoder, coming to you from the Forrest Family Ministry Center. On this late June day, I’m joined by Pastor Marion Forrest, who had a profound impact in the founding of our church over 50 years ago. And as I look around here, I’m blown away with the progress that’s been made in the last several months as we anticipate later this year actually using this facility. Pastor Marion, what are some impressions that you have as you see this for the first time taking shape?

Construction Timelapse: November 2017–July 2018

Pastor Marion:
Well, I’m blown away with the size of it. Normally we have a ministry that’s outgrowing the walls. This time, it seems as if we’re going to have the walls ready for the ministry, and I thank the Lord for you and the other men that have seen their foresight to build this, in order to use it as a great tool here. That’s all it is, is a tool.

Pastor Mike:
For sure. Well, those are kind words, and I share many of your impressions in looking around here. Let’s give the congregation a sneak peek as we look at some of the spaces that this facility will provide.

I’m standing now in the multipurpose space, and this is a space that’s going to serve us in all kinds of really important and strategic ways. Perhaps the most important use of this space will occur or begin in early 2019, when we meet for worship services right here when the Worship Center itself is being renovated, and you can see some of the spaces that we’ll use: storage areas, a platform back behind me, from where we’ll lead worship services, and, over to my left here, a large kitchen with a capacity that we’ve never really had before. I’m really looking forward to being in this place.

Pastor Marion:
This’ll be a great training ground, and the people will have the opportunity of showing their talents completely in this area, without some of the mess that we’ve had in the past.

Pastor Mike:
I sure hope that’s the case, as we seek to train people as they grow in Christ, and send them out with the Gospel of Christ.
We’re here now in one of the four double classrooms, or eight classrooms, if you like, that bear a striking resemblance, in some ways, to the DeArmey classrooms that we’ve used for many years, but have all of the updated technology and capacities that we need as we look forward. Our church looks forward to the use of these, but we want to think about these rooms not just in terms of what they can give us, but how we can use them for a lost and needy world out there. We want to think about outreach opportunities, where we bring people in, and are able to, through our lives and what we teach and how we share with them, understand the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We’ve come a long way, from almost 55 years ago in the basement of your home, and yet we’re still committed to training people in the Word of God so that they can go with the Spirit of God and share the Gospel of God to the world around us.

Pastor Marion:
When my wife and I came to Columbus over 50-some years ago, we had no church home. It was hard to find a church that taught the Bible, and that motivated us to start a Sunday School class, or a Bible study, in our home. There was no way we could’ve imagined how God would use those people we reached.

Pastor Mike:
It’s deep in your heart, that you desire that this become a training ground, a greenhouse for us, as we take the Gospel into the world, and our church has a rich history of that. Thanks for your vision so many years ago, and thanks for your desire that your life leaves a legacy for our people in the future to go.

Well, that’s an early summer update on the progress of the Forrest Family Ministry Center and, if you’re like me, you’re really excited about what the rest of this year holds. Make sure to plan in August 26 on your schedules to be part of our Vision Sunday here, where we’ll give a further update, and look at some of the specific uses of this as we look to the end of this year and beyond. Speaking of which, we’re looking at a November completion of this facility, and then the regular usage of this beginning in the new year, 2019. I want to say a special thanks to so many of you who have given to our Reaching Beyond campaign. This facility itself is fully funded and paid for, and we praise God for that. God uses each of us, in what may seem like small ways, to do something grand, and I look forward to the ways in which we’ll see that He has prepared a future for us. Praise God for that.

Pastor Marion:
When we started, we prayed for 500 souls to come to know Him as Savior. We’ve far exceeded that, and we can’t even imagine, I can’t, how great a God I truly serve. Thank you for being our pastor, Mike.

Pastor Mike:
You’re most welcome, and we’re thankful for those who have led in the past, up to the present, and for the ways in which God is going to use this and all of us as we look to the future.
